KISSIMMEE CHAIN OF LAKES
Lake Kissimmee and the Kissimmee River are part Kissimmee River watershed.
They are a part of the headwaters of the Everglades starting at Shingle Creek (just south of Orlando) into the Kissimmee River, which flows south into Lake Okeechobee and eventually into the Everglades.
It is composed of four major lakes (Tohopekaliga, Cypress, Hatchineha and Kissimmee) totaling approximately 65,000 surface acres.
Fishing with shiners will be the most productive.
Speck fishermen divide time between the open water and the grass. There is great cover with bulrush, cattails, Kissimmee grass and lily.
Lake Kissimmee has a national reputation for high quality bass fishing. The 34,948-acre lake is fantastic in central Florida.
Expansive stands of vegetation are the reason for excellent catches of Trophy Bass and good limits in tournaments, 20-to-25-pound catches are common.
Slow-trolling golden shiners and flipping plastic baits along, and within, the vegetation are proven techniques, especially during the winter and spring.
During the summer and fall, bass are caught in the deeper water. Hydrilla is the best places to fish.
